Guinness puts 'zing' in new stout
The limited-edition Guinness 250 Anniversary Stout celebrates Arthur Guinness's signing of a 9,000-year lease in 1759 at St. James's Gate Brewery in Dublin, still the company's main brewery.
When it arrives in US bars and stores April 24, the anniversary brew will be the first new stout Guinness has exported to the United States since it brought over Guinness Draught in the mid-1960s.
The anniversary stout will be available only in the United States, Australia, and Singapore, according to Diageo PLC, owner of Guinness and the world's largest liquor producer. The company's other brands include Johnnie Walker and Baileys.
The beer is expected to be available for about six months, said Patrick Hughes, brand director for Diageo Guinness USA.

Centex Being Sold for 1.3B
Two homebuilders with a large Florida presence will be merged when Pulte Homes of Michigan buys Dallas-based Centex Corp.
Pulte has agreed to buy Centex in a stock swap valued at $1.3 billion, the two companies said Wednesday. The acquisition also includes net debt of $1.8 billion, giving the entire transaction a value of $3.1 billion.
Under the terms of the agreement, Centex shareholders will receive 0.975 of a share of Pulte common stock for each share of Centex they own. The deal, which is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter, would create the nation’s largest homebuilder. The acquisition comes as large homebuilders, including Hollywood-based TOUSA, are struggling in bankruptcies.
Pulte (NYSE: PHM) and Centex (NYSE: CTX) said the deal should allow for $350 million in annual cost savings and the retirement of $1 billion of debt by the end of 2009. The boards of both companies unanimously approved the merger.
According to Pulte CEO Richard J. Dugas Jr. the combination will put both firms “in an excellent position to navigate through the current housing downturn” and “accelerate a return to profitability.”

GM Unveils new "PUMA" Vehicle with SEGWAY
Print On the cult comedy show Arrested Development, Will Arnett's character, Gob Bluth, proudly cruises around town on a Segway, in all its nerdy glory. Oh, how I miss you, AD! The upright, self-balancing electric scooter was intended to be a safe, practical, and economical marvel but instead has found itself the butt of many jokes, developing a stigma of laziness and dorkiness.
Today, however, General Motors Corp. and Segway Inc. hope you'll think otherwise. The companies have joined forces to create not just a two-wheeled electrical vehicle but a two-seater designed to be an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional cars and trucks. The project,called Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility, is part of GM's effort to change its public image and focus on creating fuel-efficient vehicles. It is made specifically for city driving.
Weighing 600 pounds, PUMA would run on a lithium-ion battery and reach speeds of up to 35 miles per hour. According to Larry Burns, GM's vice president of research and development, the vehicles would also be part of a communications network, that through the use of transponder and GPS technology, would allow them to drive themselves. The vehicles would avoid obstacles such as other cars and pedestrians. I hope they can do something about the design;
it unfortunately looks more like a rickshaw you'd find up and down the Atlantic City boardwalk.
"Imagine moving about cities in a vehicle fashioned to your taste, that's fun to drive and ride in, that safely takes you where you want to go, and 'connects' you to friends and family, while using clean, renewable energy, producing zero vehicle tailpipe emissions, and without the stress of traffic jams," said Burns. "And imagine doing this for one-fourth to one-third the cost of what you pay to own and operate today's automobile. This is what Project PUMA is capable of delivering."
The Arrested Development movie is slated for sometime in 2010. Maybe we'll get to see Gob upgrade his Segway to a PUMA.
